When heading up to La Union for a quick weekend getaway, you'll have to endure a long 5-hour drive (or more, if you're going during the holidays!) before getting to your destination. And it's usually those last few minutes when you get super hungry and irritable or you're itching to get out of the car to stretch your legs.
On our last trip to La Union, we made a small detour to this humble roadside eatery, Natalna Grille, just 30 minutes away from San Juan to stretch our legs, fill our tummies, and start exploring La Union's food scene.
Two things we loved about the place: the delicious seafood options at very affordable prices, and eating all this right by the beach! Maybe it's just us, but there's something that makes food, especially seafood, so much yummier when you can feel and smell the fresh ocean breeze.

We started our meal of with their Crispy Shrimps (Php 150) appetizer and it was sooo good that we wanted to take home a few orders so we could snack on it during the rest of our 2 days in La Union! Seriously, we'd come back to Natalna Grille just for this.
Not exactly the healthiest appetizer, but you deserve a whole plate of this crispy Chicharon Bulaklak (Php 150) after that long drive!

Grilled Tuna Belly
The Grilled Tuna Belly (Php 185) was on the small side so it's only good for one person. We ordered this with a side of Aligue Rice (Php 45), which more than compensated for the size of the tuna belly. I mean, look at that big heap of aligue! If you're hungry, consider ordering another dish with this too.
Despite the growing food scene in LU, there's not a lot of La Union restaurants that serve seafood dishes. But, when you're on the beach, sometimes you're hit with a seafood craving.. or maybe that's just us! Thankfully, Natalna Grille serves this scrumptious Grilled Squid (Php 195+).
The Grilled Pulpog (Php 155) is one of Natalna Grille's bestsellers, and we can see why! Definitely a must-try.
To make up for our unhealthy appetizers, we ordered the Dinengdeng Ilocano (Php 125 for small / Php 180 for large) for our last dish. This Ilocano vegetable soup dish is another one of Natalna Grille's bestsellers and is frequently ordered by locals.

Of course, we couldn't leave without getting Fresh Buko (Php 55), served in the coconut!
